At St. Mary of Carmel Catholic School, providing a safe and caring environment for every student is our highest priority. To maintain the highest safety standards, all volunteers must complete the Safe Environment training and clearance process before engaging in any school activities.
This vital process, established by the Diocese of Dallas, ensures that every member of our school community is prepared to support and protect our children. Through comprehensive training, interviews, reference checks, and background screenings, we work together to foster a culture of vigilance, integrity, and compassion.

At St. Mary of Carmel Catholic School, we are deeply grateful for the time, talent, and dedication of our volunteers. To maintain a safe and nurturing environment for every child, all volunteers—new and returning—are required to complete the following steps:
Begin by watching the required training video on the key principles for maintaining a safe environment at St. Mary of Carmel. This video provides essential guidance on recognizing and preventing risks, and underscores our shared commitment to vigilance in safeguarding our students.
After viewing the training video, new volunteers will participate in a brief in-person interview. This meeting allows us to connect with each volunteer, address any questions, and ensure clarity regarding roles and responsibilities.
We reach out to the references provided to speak to each volunteer’s character and reliability. This process helps us continue to build a community grounded in trust and integrity.
All new volunteers must complete a comprehensive background check. To maintain our safety standards, background checks are renewed annually.
Each year, returning volunteers must complete updated Safe Environment training. This includes watching the most recent training video, which reflects any policy changes and reinforces our shared commitment to protecting every child at St. Mary of Carmel Catholic School.
To ensure ongoing safety, returning volunteers are also required to complete an annual background check. This process helps us remain vigilant and maintain a secure environment for all students.
