Our Teacher Lala Library

Help Us Bring New Life to the Teacher Lala Library at St. Mary of Carmel!

The Teacher Lala Library at St. Mary of Carmel holds a special place in our community’s heart. Since its beginning as the original church, it has witnessed the sacraments of countless alums who were baptized, received Holy Communion, and the sacrament of Confirmation at St. Mary of Carmel. Teacher Lala, who served our school for many years before retiring in 2013, was a proud alumna herself, and her legacy continues to inspire our library today.

In recent years, challenges such as COVID-19 and funding shortages have led to fewer visits to the library at SMC. But thanks to the dedication of our board members, Ursuline student volunteers, and our former assistant principal, the library is coming back to life! With a new staff library manager joining next year and support from a Region 10-licensed librarian, we are updating and clearing out our collection so students can discover great books, complete research projects, and develop a true love of reading.

Now, we need your help to continue this exciting transformation! We’re raising funds to expand our collection through Perma-Bound, which will provide high-quality books and an easy-to-manage database for our students and teachers. You can learn more about the program at Perma-Bound Library Selection.

We also want to make books more accessible and appealing by adding clear book displays throughout the library. Our goal is to purchase 25 displays at $159 each. Any amount you contribute will directly support putting great books into students’ hands and making our library a vibrant, welcoming place for all.

Thank you for supporting the Teacher Lala Library and helping ignite a lifelong love of reading at St. Mary of Carmel!
